Reconnect Google Drive on your desktop

To reconnect Google Drive Desktop on your computer, follow these steps:

For Windows:

  1. Open Google Drive:

    • Click on the Google Drive icon in your system tray (usually located in the bottom-right corner of your screen).

  2. Sign Out and Sign Back In:

    • Click on the gear icon (settings) and select “Preferences.”

    • In the preferences window, go to the “Account” tab.

    • Click “Disconnect Account” to sign out.

    • After signing out, sign back in with your Google account credentials.

  3. Restart Google Drive:

    • Right-click on the Google Drive icon in the system tray and select “Quit.”

    • Restart Google Drive by searching for it in the Start menu and clicking on the application to open it.

  4. Check for Updates:

    • Make sure you are using the latest version of Google Drive. Visit the Google Drive download page to download and install the latest version.

For macOS:

  1. Open Google Drive:

    • Click on the Google Drive icon in your menu bar (usually located at the top right of your screen).

  2. Sign Out and Sign Back In:

    • Click on the gear icon (settings) and select “Preferences.”

    • In the preferences window, go to the “Account” tab.

    • Click “Disconnect Account” to sign out.

Additional Tips:

  • Reinstall Google Drive: If the above steps don’t work, try uninstalling and reinstalling Google Drive:

    • Uninstall Google Drive from your computer.

    • Download the latest version from the Google Drive download page.

    • Install Google Drive again and sign in with your Google account.

  • Check Internet Connection: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection, as connectivity issues can prevent Google Drive from reconnecting.

  • Clear Cache and Data: Clearing the cache and data of the Google Drive application might help resolve issues:

    • For Windows: Clear the cache by going to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS and deleting the contents of the DriveFS folder.

    • For macOS: Clear the cache by going to ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS and deleting the contents of the DriveFS folder.
